I feel the same way AlanJ! I think it is absolutely ridiculous that Imus has been fired over his remarks on a shock jock radio show. People may think he crossed a line, but he has apologized over and over and over! Sharpton and Jackson both do nothing but seek media attention. I personally am not a fan of the Imus show but I think firing Don Imus was absurd.
There is such a double standard in America. It is acceptable for one race to poke fun at whites every chance they get. In sitcoms and comedy acts… not to mention the fact that it is acceptable for them to bash each other AND women in their rap songs. It's absolutely ridiculous. The truth is, I've never found Don Imus very entertaining, however, I find the mouth on Rev Sharpton and the Rev Jackson when they open it to be racist, annoying and quite less entertaining!
Don't get me wrong, I belive diversity is a good thing. I believe all humans, all races, creeds, and religions are equal and we should all treat each other the way we want to be treated. However, political correctness kills me. I too don't do politically correct very well and I don't cater to ethnic sensitivites very well. My heritage is native american and I get very upset when I hear comments from native americans about sports teams being called Indians or Chiefs. What is the big deal?
I believe the rules must apply to everyone equally...if rappers can call women ho's and MUCH worse, then everyone should be able to do the same. In my opinion if someone doesn't like what they hear then don't listen to the program. It is that simple. This demanding Imus be fired and the networks freaking out and firing him because they don't want to deal with ANY racial issue due to political correctness is crazy.
I'm afraid this does nothing but separate the races even more.....
