I was a "beehaver" many years ago - read a book, ordered Midnite bees and they survived my lack of management for 3 years, until an ice storm downed trees on my 2 hives. Now, I am trying to upgrade myself from beehaver to beekeeper. This site is providing me with loads of info. that I need - Thanks! I will be starting 2 hives in April.
Regarding my username - soilserf My other hobby, (which lasted for approx. 20 years), was growing christmas trees. Requirements for a sucessful chrismas tree grower = Be smarter than a pine tree, and work long hours in the hot sun.

Thanks for the welcome, GTBee. Yes, I joined the Metro Atlanta Beekeepers Assoc. in Feb. I did their one day short course in Jan. I also plan to attend the Young Harris workshop, May 18, 19. This "beekeeping" is going to require some effort to be done right, thats why this will be a great hobby. I bet you are also a Metro member, ( I have not attended a meeting yet), see you there!

Hi Soilserf40,
I'm also a Metro member and rarely miss a meeting - sorry you didn't go to the one just after the short course. I got talked into doing a talk on being a new beekeeper and GTBee helped me - was part of a panel and sent me great slides for my slideshow.
Hope to see you there on Wednesday - at the Botanical Garden - new meeting place.
