i can't vouch for the stats in this, but the conclusion was cute...and not a bad idea.....  i heard a similar one about Philadelphia.

INTERESTING STATISTIC

You know I am shocked to find out that those statistics may be wrong.

can't argue the numbers without doing my own research, but your article is about deaths in iraq. my email is about troop deaths.  little different.

my math skills suck.  how about the Philadelphia murder rate?   http://www.nbc10.com/news/6161126/detail.html.

seems like good odds of getting killed there to for the population number.  http://philadelphia.areaconnect.com/statistics.htm

you can do the math for me  smiley

There were about 152,000 US troops in Iraq as of early October 2005. As of mid-November 2006, there were approximately 152,000 US troops deployed to Iraq.
http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/ops/iraq_orbat.htm

Pentagon officials say the new plan is aimed at adding manpower to improve security in the short term -- when troop numbers will increase from the current 130,000 to as many as 180,000
http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2003/11/06/number_of_troops_in_iraq_to_expand/

Between those two articles the average number is 141,000.
Current number of deaths in Iraq since war began (03/19/03) 3160
Percentage of Casulities .023 % (rounded up)
Casulities per 100,000  2300

Population in DC since 2003 is 554,126 (averaged number)
Current number of murders since 2003   811
Percentage of Casulities      .0015% (rounded up)
Percentage per 100,000 150

The simple fact is as bad as the crime rate is in dc it isn't and has never been 80.6 per 100,000.

Sincerely,
Brendhan
