Sigh. I feel for the people and their dog. I would like to take the local media and.....

Well if you can't say something nice.

I was wondering after I thought about what I'd read...... "had accidentally spilled some tiki torch fuel on the dog and were bathing her in the backyard"........ What does this stuff smell like, how does it affect bees

you can get it in different scents, but  citronella is popular for insect repellent qualities.

i could have sworn i'd heard stories of AHBs in trees and other stuff? maybe they are like yellowjackets?  they like the ground, but they also like my  hay and my well house.

Yep, in trees, walls, any cavity they take a liking to, just like any other bee. And I believe all other bees well nest in the ground if the cavity is big enough.
