Yeah!!! Less than 12 days to the winter solstace, one of my favourite times of year, Christmas, family, the turning point of fall into winter, and THE DAYS GETTING LONGER, little by little. My family gets so tired of me pointing out (around the middle of January) when it is really noticeable, about the daylight increasing, slowly and then more quickly every day. YEAH, gotta love the springtime comin' on. You know you love it. Great day. Cindi

i was just thinking about how nice it was that we were almost over the hump! i spent last week in las vegas and the days were SO SHORT!!!! you can't tell inside the casino, but you walk out the door and it's dark a 4pm! same here, but not quite the shock when you are around windows all day.  bring on the longer days!! |

The solstice is the time of the death of the old sun and the birth of the dark-half of the year. It was called "Alban Arthuan by the ancient Druids. It is the end of month of the Elder Tree and the start of the month of the Birch. The three days before Yule is a magical time. This is the time of the Serpent Days or transformation...The Elder and Birch stand at the entrance to Annwn or Celtic underworld where all life was formed. Like several other myths they guard the entrance to the underworld. This is the time the Sun God journey's thru the underworld to learn the secrets of death and life. And bring out those souls to be reincarnated."
The precise moment of the 2006 solstice will be December 21 at 7:22 P.M. EST (Dec. 22, 00:22 UT).

(pacific time) December 21, 2006, the winter solstace in about 3 hours in. I revel in the thoughts of the longer daylight hours, the awakening of daylight from its fall's sleep. Just got back from a friends house were we celebrated the solstice. I did burn my regrets of this past year and prayed for peace and health in the year to come.
The earth has turned and the daylight grows for this point on. YEEEEHAAAAWWW!

organicgrl37. Sounds like you are interested in some very cool stuff. We had the honour of celebrating the "marriage" of two of our friends at our home last summer. The High Priestess (spelling?) performed a wonderful ceremony, worshipping the north, south, east and west, and we all danced in a circle (to make things short), holding hands and drank lots of mead that the female bride had made months in advance. A beautiful summer day to celebrate a beautiful celebration of a very unique form. I love to look at the video that a friend had taken, it takes me back to that special day in our lives. We have had several weddings of different types here, our yard is very beautiful and large, and is a perfect park like setting to have celebrations and take pictures. Have an awesome holiday season.
