i've got a package deal with the local phone company. i live in a very rural area. so i get dsl, "cable" tv, and phone service for about $120/month. this has turned out to be cheaper than having DSL, phone service, and direct tv. i get more stations now.
i think dsl alone is about $40/month here.

hmm,
only DSL 1Mbit/256Kbit costs about $35 a month, don't know how much was the installation, if there was one.

Verizon is running a big special $17.95 a month for basic DSL. Faster than dial up and cheaper. Not the fastest they offer, but it's what I have and it works fine for me.

I'm currently using the same system as amymcg. My Dad had been using Clearwire and I had used Comcast before, both were about $40.00 a month. I see no real difference in page display speed and the lesser cost means I can buy chicken feed for the chickens.

Comcast Cable
$56 a month for 4MB Download & 512Kb Upload
Tested Last Result:
Download Speed: 3705 kbps (463.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 347 kbps (43.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
I pay a premium price cause I don't subscribe to their other services.
In my area, I've "lost" service for short periods
fewer than a dozen times in over 5 years,
three of those due to storm damage.
