I had pure Carniolans from Slovenia 10 years. Too many years they were awfull to swarm.
I have been looking around for a race of bees to start in the spring. I looked into Carniolans. I came across an article posted on this list about the New World Carniolans. http://beemaster.com/beebbs/viewtopic.php?t=1687&highlight=races+bees
Both emails of intrest were posted by Pardee. January 22 & 24 2005.
I also traced down STRACHAN APIARIES, INC.
2522 Tierra Buena Rd.
Yuba City, CA. 95993
fax: 530-674-5802 http://www.strachanbees.com/index.html
I went to Strachans web site and read all of it including the Ohio State University link. I also talked to them on the phone and have sent email to them. I am lucky they are about an hour and a half's drive South of me. It seems worth a try. I will be starting three hives in the spring. I will have to order queens (3) the first of next month for delivery in late April. I will start my nucs as early as I can get them, as our first bloom is Manzanita in late February. I will requeen with the NWC queens around the first of May. That is when we will see what happens.
Just a little information which I thought might be of intrest to you.
