dietomacous earth in SBB for mite controll

Has anyone ever heard ot this as opposed to other ways sticky bottom, veg oil  etc  and what are your thoughts.

I use it in a west SHB trap for SHB & mite control. Sometimes I just use lime as it works well too.
Beekeeping and hunting.... Is there anything else?
