Many years ago when the white people came to America seems to me we did a lot of  native american territory bullying. Just a comment to think about.
Also, many years ago (not too many) People came to Ellis Island looking to WORK and make something for themselves and for their families. Not to come here and accept handouts. They didn't come here expecting the government was going to flip the bill.
If people want to come to this great nation they need to be on the same playing field so to speak as the rest of us.
The problem with America and the New Deal is out of control. There are plenty of people who have lived here a long time and use the system,...
And if a bunch of Spanish (or French or Italian) people want to get a band together or produce a CD in the name of our great nation....God Bless them.
It reminds me of another story about offending some people for saying Merry Christmas.... rolleyes
we need to have tolerance equal...across the board. And we need to have respect for each other.
sorry...I just had some flight of thought while reading all your comments. wink

Theodore Roosevelt's ideas on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN in 1907.

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes
here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us,
he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is
an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or
birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's
becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an
American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he
is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We
have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but
one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room
for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

WOULDN'T IT BE GREAT TO TURN ON THE TV AND HEAR ANY U.S.
PRESIDENT, DEMOCRAT OR REPUBLICAN GIVE THE FOLLOWING SPEECH?

My Fellow Americans: As you all know, the defeat of Iraq regime
  has been completed.

Since congress does not want to spend any more money on this war,
our mission in Iraq is complete.

This morning I gave the order for a complete removal of all
American forces from Iraq. This action will be complete within 30
days. It is now to begin the reckoning.

Before me, I have two lists. One list contains the names of
countries which have stood by our side during the Iraq conflict.
This list is short. The United Kingdom, Spain, Bulgaria, Australia,
and Poland are some of the countries listed there.

The other list contains everyone not on the first list. Most of
the world's nations are on that list. My press secretary will be
distributing copies of both lists later this evening.

Let me start by saying that effective immediately, foreign aid to
those nations on List 2 ceases immediately and indefinitely. The
money saved during the first year alone will pretty much pay for the
  costs of the Iraqi war.

The American people are no longer going to pour money into third
world Hell-holes and watch those government leaders grow fat on
  corruption.

Need help with a famine? Wrestling with an epidemic? Call France.

In the future, together with Congress, I will work to redirect
this money toward solving the vexing social problems we still have
  at home.
On that note, a word to terrorist organizations. Screw with us and
we will hunt you down and eliminate you and all your friends from
  the face of the earth.

Thirsting for a gutsy country to terrorize? Try France, or maybe
  China.

I am ordering the immediate severing of diplomatic relations with
France, Germany, and Russia. Thanks for all your help, comrades. We
are retiring from NATO as well. Bon chance, mes amis.

I have instructed the Mayor of New York City to begin towing the
many UN diplomatic vehicles located in Manhattan with more than two
unpaid parking tickets to sites where those vehicles will be
stripped, shredded and crushed. I don't care about whatever treaty
  pertains to this.
You creeps have tens of thousands of unpaid tickets.
  Pay those tickets
tomorrow or watch your precious Benzes, Beamers and limos be turned
over to some of the finest chop shops in the world. I love New York

A special note to our neighbors. Canada is on List
  2 Since we are
likely to be seeing a lot more of each other, you folks might want
to try not pissing us off for a change.

Mexico is also on List 2. President Fox and his entire corrupt
government really need an attitude adjustment. I will have a couple
extra tank and infantry divisions sitting around. Guess where I am
going to put em? Yep, border security. So start doing something with
  your oil.

Oh, by the way, the United States is abrogating the NAFTA treaty
  - starting now.

We are tired of the one-way highway. Immediately, we'll be
drilling for oil in Alaska - which will take care of this country's
oil needs for decades to come. If you're an environmentalist who
opposes this decision, I refer you to List 2 above: pick a country
  and move there.
  They care.

It is time for America to focus on its own welfare and its own
citizens. Some will accuse us of isolationism. I answer them by
  saying, "darn tootin."
Nearly a century of trying to help folks live a decent life
around the world has only earned us the undying enmity of just about
everyone on the planet. It is time to eliminate hunger in America.
It is time to eliminate homelessness in America. It is time to
eliminate World Cup Soccer from America. To the nations on List 1, a
final thought. Thanks guys. We owe you and we won't forget. To the
nations on List 2, a final   thought: You might want to learn to speak Arabic.
God bless America.
Thank you and good night. If you can read this, thank a teacher. If
you are reading it in English, thank a soldier.

It is interesting on how we can justify how LEARNING ENGLISH isn't a necessity to being IN America - legal or not. I call it LAZY and disrespectful, you may disagree, everyone has the right to be wrong.

Using other countries as examples of the multilinguality of their country's social system is fine - and when your FIRST minority speaks Spanish, it may be a good idea for Americans to learn Spanish - but I REFUSE TO  HAVE IT THE OTHER WAY AROUND and "approve" with the idea that it is okay to NOT learn English especially in conjunction with the fact you find it PERFECTLY ACCEPTABLE to come here and remain here illegally.

Some of you POLITICALLY CORRECT PEOPLE have been brain-washed. I'm not blaming you, I'm blaming TV. Too much Disney Channel and Darma and Greg and Queer Eye this and other shows where 5 people sleep together and no one every sleeps. It is easier for the LIBERALS to LOWER "your" fences than to spend the money to build the wall along the Southern border of the US - ESPECIALLY when the Liberals DON'T want that money going for borders, but for SOCIAL PROGRAMS to keep people POOR and DEPENDANT on LIBERAL GOVERNMENT.

So it really has nothing to do with the illegals, and it won't be UNTIL they get FULL VOTING RIGHTS in our country (in many parts of the country they do - I swear I've seen this in the news) but once the Democrats gets the largest minority completely tucked in their pockets (most pockets are over-flowing now) then our country will return to the flip-side of the political coin. Some Presidents grow on you - I liked Bill Clinton LONG BEFORE his re-election WHICH is exactly opposite of how I felt for GHW Bush - I was feeling ill about him by the end of his third year in office and was TICKLED to see him lose to a man I finally learned to like, WJ Clinton (AKA Billy Bligh - Clinton's birth name).

In other words, I don't mind individuals as much as I do party concepts - When I think of Liberal Democrats, Ted Kennedy stands at the Podium and when I think Conservative Republicans, I see Ronald Reagan.

I will give Teddy credit, he sure has staying power - that liberal Viagra IV "Drip plugged" into that inflated ego of his sure does the trick - he has somehow remained the same pompous ass no matter what tragedy life has thrown at him. And the funny thing - I heard Teddy speak this weekend, and EVEN HE AGREES that ENGLISH is important to speak by everyone (legal or not) and the National Anthem should be sung in English.

I'm ending my input to this topic - I would suspect half of the members here are liberally slanted and EVEN THOUGH you can trash-talk conservatism to me and I won't be offended, MANY Liberals take trash-talking too personal.

LAST WORDS: To our country's success, multiculturalism has create the greatest country on Earth (at least at this time in history - and only in my and a few hundred MILLION other people's opinion) it is diversity that has made it so. We have often taken the high road or long route to get to the obvious conclusions and we are not finished in trying to be morally acceptable of all people.

Sadly, it is a few people who ruin it for the masses. The majority of incarcerated are blacks in our jails, I can't imagine anyone MORE DISAPPOINTED in them then the blacks who work hard all their lives to become outstanding citizens, only to have stereotypical thugs try to ruin it for everyone.

Too many people see the news and form opinions of RACES or RELIGIONS from the slanted material they see on the 6-11pm new casts. That is the biggest shame of all. Diversity training does one important thing that we should all take to heart: it focuses on the individual, not the perceived token bad guy for any culture, race or religion.

Heck, I'm Irish in decent, but I'm an American and rarely do I mention the former (not because of embarrassment or lack of pride in my heritage) but because mentioning that I'm Irish descendant brings up stereotypes of drunkard Christians who can't even agree which church Jesus prefers. It is stereotypes that are killing us all.

Americans are gaining a world wide hatred, as war mongering, democracy pushing people who have the money to buy and build toys of mass destruction YET we threaten to attack anyone else by stating in Iran's case "They should not even have the KNOWLEDGE of how to build nuclear devices, let known use them." in other words, the USA now dictates (at least wants to) what people KNOW, now just what they do - no wonder much of the world hates us and NOW Tony Blair is getting fallback from his close ties to Bush.

If closing our borders and introducing the illegals we currently have into a viable work force was possible - then infractions of trespassing should be subject to extreme reprimands. Eventually we need to get tough on migration, work programs for a period of time is a good bandage but work programs and visas are a long way from a permanent fix - luckily, by time a serious effort is made, we'll have a different man in the Commander in Chief Chair - and I don't care WHICH PARTY he/she comes from - it is time for a change.

perhaps there should also be a list of american citizens opposed to the war (i am one of these), maybe not just oppsed but thinking that our government has used its military might to commit criminal acts (i am one of these too). so these americans should not be entitled to social security maybe? protection from crime by government agents?(police). well...you get the point.
maybe some of us liberals should be sent to Mexico in exchange for some of those illegal immigrants who fully support our government.

and how many years will it be until our national anthem is sung in mandarin?

Amy Thank you Smiley
I made one error in my hurried post and I'll correct that line now - because it is an important one. I'll BOLD the single word I left out that SURELY NEEDED to be included:

Quote
LAST WORDS: To our country's success, multiculturalism has create the greatest country on Earth (at least at this time in history - and only in my and a few hundred MILLION other people's opinion) it is diversity that has made it so. We have often taken the high road or long route to get to the obvious conclusions and we are not finished in trying to be morally acceptable of all people.

There..... that word MILLION sure helped my point a little. lol.

JERRYMAC: to answer your comment "I don't remember saying I dislike Liberals (I am confused about Liberalism and how people choose to let the system support them rather than create a environment of life which they themselves can thrive) In Bill Clinton's case, I like his for TWO VERY IMPORTANT REASONS, neither had anything to do with being President nor being Liberal.

1) He loves meeting people - all people, rich , poor, dirt farmers to Space Shuttle Pilots, etc.. I have studied his interaction with the public during all his campaigns and I HONESTLY BELIEVE (and know in my heart) he was sincere in learning from anyone who had an experience to share. This is his greatest quality as a human and honorable.

2) Beside his lies and deception about the Monica thing and "what does "is" mean when being deposed", he was/is a very smart man - unlike the baboon we have in office now. Clinton believed in peaceful solutions, but understood that peace was not always an option on a table. It takes a wise man to see and understand the difference. Sometimes you need to deal with the Lessor of two evils RATHER THAN the Evil of two lessers - this seems to happen most often in Presidential elections.

Both Clinton and GW Bush have two distinctive quirks - Clinton has his HUMBLING LIP-BITING and Bush has his SMIRKY AGITATED WISE-CRACKING REMARKS which he uses to talk DOWN at the people he has sworn to preserve. Given the chance, I would have Bill Clinton Chew his lip in a false (or at least exaggerated humbleness) any day over the head bobbing smirkmiester who has nearly 70% of the country believing the only reason we are in Iraq is to finish the war his father started.

Jerry - there are no perfect humans in office - we are men not Gods. I'm afraid that the ONLY REASON we have another Bush in office is because (for some historical subliminal thinking) our countrymen wanted to say THEY voted for both a FATHER and a SON in office during their life time - which is a stupid reason to elect a man, even if that man were ten times the man his father was (which honestly wasn't too high a goal to achieve either).

Yes.... I liked Bill Clinton, still do. After what I've said above, is THAT so hard to understand???

When I pop out 10 to 30 paragraphs, I put myself in that situation where someone can tear apart individual lines and quote me out of context - I'm a man and can handle it. I don't even argue it back, as you noticed in a relative post above - multi-opinion has precedence over anything I or they can ever write. I have faith in words and on a good day, I can find the right ones and actually get a point across that may indeed open up someones eyes or at least make them think. Surely my opinions are merely that, they have no more value that anyone else in this forum or in any blog every written. Words are a gift from God, and when used wisely, it helps us all know each other better.

If I remeber my history correctly, the first act our government ever performed was a criminal act... and was backed by the military...Signing the declaration of independance was an act of high treason... wink

this sounds like it would be an equivalent if the iraqi people fought against the invading americans. you are comparing honey and maple syrup. (trying to keep with the bee theme here).

No one in the USA government signed that document and there was no USA military, just a bunch of regular folk tired of being pushed around.

TIME TO CLOSE THE TOPIC - IT IS WORTH KEEPING, but I THINK EVERYTHING (ON TOPIC) HAS BEEN SAID BY NOW - AND WE ARE NOT GOING TO GET OFF ON  TOPICS RELATIVE TO WHO THINKS THE WAR IS FAR OR NOT.

IT WAS A GOOD TOPIC THOUGH - IT MADE MANY PEOPLE THINK AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, THEY WORMED THEIR WAY AROUND THE POLITICAL CORRECTNESS THAT HAS SOOOOO CRIPPLED THE WAY WE HAVE ALWAYS TALKED AND FORMED OPINIONS.

IF I WERE DISAPPOINTED AT ALL - IT WAS THE POSTS WHICH WERE JUST CUT AND PASTED  MATERIAL FROM OTHER SOURCES. I UNDERSTAND SOME HAD REASONING, BUT LET'S HEAR WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY - IT JUST MAKES MORE SENSE.

TOPIC CLOSED.
