Propane prices
« on: January 25, 2014, 01:56:52 AM »
I have been seeing and hearing about the outrageous prices for propane as of late.  If where you are is like here, you either own your tank or rent it.  I own my tank, and in August I call all the places that sell propane to get a price.  I know how much I usually use and I book or pre-buy a years worth.  On an average year I will use 600 to 700 gals.  When it is supposed to be a mild year I will book 750, this year it was supposed to be cold so I booked 875.  Depending on what you can get the distributor down to per gal you can save several dollars in price.  The more years and the amount you get also helps on the price you can get.  I might could have got him down more but I got this years at a little over 1.90 a gal.    Just thought I would let you know if you didn't about booking your propane.  Hope you all stay warm.

Yep-the annual gouging has begun in earnest up here.  Despite 'ample' natural gas (so we were led to believe) and a refinery in Superior, Wisconsin (roughly 2 hours North of me) the price for propane is $4.00 a gallon and rising.  Thankfully I'm able to "pre" buy in August ($1.35/gal) and I only use one tank per season, relying on wood for most of our heat.

Facts be known;  The natural gas we were told was gonna save us from foreign oil dependance……...turns out BIG OIL can't sell it to other foreign countries fast enough…….when its gone, then what?

Yep the price is up.. While we do not use propane to heat our house only BBQ. It still stings when after cooking I raise the heat to burn off what was stuck to the grill only to discover the following morning the knob still on but a cold grill....

 Only my wife has done that….I had to take her BBQ privileges away for a while (thank goodness for me, she loves to BBQ, rain or shine, sleet or snow kinda girl)…..since I don't do much 'regular' cooking we both got skinny (er)  ;)

My wife knows she loves her some grilling! Most all of our meat is grilled as well as some vegies.

I paid 55.00 to lock into 1.90 a gallon until April 1.  The company I have always use since I built my home 9 years ago is the only one in the area that is still filling tanks to 80%.  One is only delivering 50 gallons at a time and the rest are at 200 per fill.  As soon as the snow melts  I'm putting in a pellet stove.

I hate to hear that about everyone's propane prices. I filled my tank just before winter and I think it was 2.90 a gal.

How much does a gallon weigh? I just filled a 100 lb. tank for 80.00.

Talked to a local propane hauler the other day, he said he and others waited over 16 hours to fill up at the refinery in Duluth/Superior last week.  Long lines for haulers and high prices have become the norm.  Can't you just smell all the money?

Highest I've heard so far up here is $5.60/gal.  WOOD is GOOD  8-)

Until GREED is condemned with as much disgust and reason as rape and murder, humanity and other lifeforms we 'share' this planet with are doomed to a bleak future IMO.
