Back in the 80's when the rush to space was wide open, the Americans spent millions of dollars to develop a pen that would write in a zero gravity atmosphere. The Russians? they used a pencil.

Sometimes you just can't beat plain ole simple.

 Smiley  Well those Russians were pretty broke by then…..and weren't 'yet' consumed by profits (hadn't completely embraced capitalism) over all else. 

When one has less to work with they make do.  American efforts are more about making dollars (for the few) than anything else.
