Hi Techs on the forum:
I have a question that might seem stupid, but here goes.
I just bought a new HP computer with Windows XP Media Edition in it - I created the two DVD backup discs and have them on file.
QUESTION: can I use these discs to REINSTALL (distructive recover) of my old DELL PC which meets all the requirements of the operating system, but is missing some of the hardware (such as the TV Tuner card) or am I asking for trouble? Would the Dell even recognize the HP software bundle packaged with the Media Edition of XP???
Please let me know. I can no longer use the reinstall discs that come with the Dell, I get a message saying that critical files are OUT-DATED and cannot be installed - I assume live updates no longer go back far enough to fix every glitch of XP home edition from the year 2000.
Please let me know - worse case, I'll go and buy a new Windows package, which I noticed there are MANY MANY versions at Staples.
Last question.... Do you see there being problem if I purchase Media Edition (of the shelf) to install in the Dell IF I still don't have all the hardware items until later?

Any thoughts appriciated
