Michael Bush's blog   www.bushfarms.com/bees.htm  . Gives a good explanation of the math involved.

.
Interesting is that there are various information about this thing.

Egg is 3 days
larva feeded 5 days
capped 9th day

capped days 9-21

most of writings it is said that larva grows 1700 fold from egg, but it is queen larva.
Worker larva grows 1000 fold.

.after larva stage worker brood looses its weight about 1/3
