I do not know what happens. I suppose that it is harmfull to larvas.

But when you have this situation, you may prefer this concept:

1) If you have in some hive drone larvas, they are jut capping, give those to that hive and mites prefer rush into drone cells
  OR
2) Take away first frame of capped brood, because after a brake mites goes into first brood bees are capping.  Uncap frame  and wash them with hose sprey.

OR
3) Make a nuc from those first brood frames and let them emerge and then you give cure.

in ist week of november here in pakistan after harvesting the zyzipus honey all the colonies of bees werw broodless.there was infestation of mite att ack.i applied first powdered suger than oxalic acid.i than shifted the apiry to an area where pollen grains were in abundance.formic acid applied when there were cappe broodes 2-3 frames.after through examination and obsevation  i found not a singe mite on fram nor brood cells ae infestted.here in pakistan dustting of sulpher, apistan strips from china and appling the smoke of tobacco plus sulpher were common. now iam determine to give up all except application of powdered suger, oxalic acid and formic acid for controll of mite population in my honey bees colonies.

Smiley      LAST YEAR ALL OF MY COLONIES WERE ENFESTTED TOO MUCH WITH MITTES.AFTER RECIEVING THE CROPES OF ZYZIPUS I APPLIED THE POWDERED SUGER,OXALIC ACIDE AND WHENE IN JANUARY 2006 IN MY COLONIES THE CAPPED BROOD DEVELOPED ON TWO OR THREE FRAM I APPLIED THE FORMIC ACIDES WITH 65% CONCENTRATION AND REPEATED AGAIN IN MID OF MARCH 2006.IT WORKED WELL.I  GOTT 57 CANES OF HONEY OF ACCASIA.EACH CAN HAS THE CAPICITY OF 42--45KGRM.WHILE MY FELLOW FARMER OBTAINED ONLY 20 --25 CANES FROM THE SAME NUMBER OF BEE COLONIES  OF 210 IN SAME AREA.
I AM PLANING TO APPLY IT AGAIN AS PRECAUTION MEASURE IN THIS SUMMER.BUT YHIS TIME I GOT THE FORMIC ACID WITH 85%.WILL SOMEONE WILL GAUID/CONVEY ME THE FORMULLA,HOW TO BRING IT TO 65 %CONCENTRATION. GOOD AND BEST WISHES TO ALL VIEWERS.
