The swarm took the lure :)

One of my hives swarmed and hung waaay out of reach. Beneath it, I set up 3 medium-depth boxes with frames. I added some drawn comb and a comb containing honey. I added a few drops of lemongrass oil, and a few drops of a queen pheromone alcohol tincture (last year I began keeping all my dead queens in a jar with a little bit of alcohol). Almost 24 hours later, the swarm moved into the lure hive.

The honey probably didn't matter but the comb, the lemongrass oil and the QMP almost always do the trick.

Take a look at this link on a swarm catcher.  I built one of these a few years back and have gotten alot of swarms that would have otherwise gotten away.  Mine screws to a telescoping paint handle so I can reach up over 25ft.  The thread are also pushbroom handle threads so there are alot of choises in handles.  Just get under the swarm, give it a solid poke and pull the string and the lid pops on

I use the Hipps bucket swarm retriever.
I just add as many 10 ft sections of 3/4 conduit as I need which is usuall 3 ft to 20 ft.
I've caught several swarms using this method.
