JB said you don't need an assault rifle or a several round mag., all you need is a double barrel shot gun. Just to step out on the balcony with a double barrel shot gun and fire off two rounds.
Then you will be standing out there with an unloaded gun. Not that you can't reload quickly, but if shooting off a couple of round is the deterent why not have a pump or semi auto.

People who make broad statements about self defense, from both sides of the argument, usually have never been in a position that they had to defend themselves. Things are not how most people picture them. They are certainly not black and white. And they almost never happen at a distance where a shotgun is of any use, because it's too long and cumbersome. In a medium distance combat situation a shotgun is the best gun for the job, but self defense, is not combat and almost always takes place at VERY close range.
But then the 2nd amendment is about more than self defense. It is also about combat.
"A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed."
Which is why the Supreme Court when reviewing a challenge to the Gun Control Law of 1936 which outlawed sawed off shotguns, was upheld, on the grounds that he Geneva Convention wouldn't allow a sawed off shotgun in combat and the 2nd amendment was about arming the people so they could be soldiers so the people had a right to the arms of a foot soldier, which today would be an M4 or an M16... full auto... high capacity magazines...

And that's precisely what so many people on the left side of the political spectrum fail to realize. We all hear arguments like - "You don't need an assault rifle to kill a deer." This shows such an appalling lack of understanding of our Constitution that anyone saying it should be stripped of their political office. The 2nd Amendment has nothing to do with hunting or clay pigeon shooting.

we look to intent when there might be questions about interpertation.
"I ask, Sir, what is the militia? It is the whole people. To disarm the people is the best and most effectual way to enslave them." George Mason
"A militia, when properly formed, are in fact the people themselves
" Richard Henry Lee
"And that the said Constitution be never construed to authorize Congress to infringe the just liberty of the Press, or the rights of Conscience; or to prevent the people of the United States, who are peaceable citizens, from keeping their own arms;
" Samuel Adams this one covers not only the 2nd, but the 1st. there is your answer to plan B and birth control paid for by those who are against it as a matter of concience.
"Firearms stand next in importance to the constitution itself. They are the American people's liberty teeth and keystone under independence
from the hour the Pilgrims landed to the present day, events, occurences and tendencies prove that to ensure peace security and happiness, the rifle and pistol are equally indispensable
the very atmosphere of firearms anywhere restrains evil interference they deserve a place of honor with all that's good." George Washington
"The supposed quietude of a good man allures the ruffian; while on the other hand arms, like laws, discourage and keep the invader and plunderer in awe, and preserve order in the world as property. The same balance would be preserved were all the world destitute of arms, for all would be alike; but since some will not, others dare not lay them aside
Horrid mischief would ensue were the law-abiding deprived of the use of them." Thomas Paine
there's more, but you get the idea.

Biden also said that a shotgun is easier to aim and shoot than an AR-15. For whom? Most small-framed women (like my daughter) have difficulty with the kick of a shotgun. even a small .410. An AR-15, with pistol grip, shooting a .223, is much easier for most women to shoot.

Neither is very good at close range, and most self defense situations are face to face at a few feet. You hear noise and go to your door just about the time it gets kicked in and you are face to face. That person promptly grabs the barrel of either your shotgun or you AR-15...
But as we said, the 2nd amendment isn't JUST about self defense, and it's not AT ALL about duck hunting...

Funny! I would be disappointed in any conservative who would waste the time. We have important things to do. The article is classic Lib.
