Recently Phil Mickelson was asked by a reporter to clarify what he meant recently on a conference call when he stated he needed to rethink his position in California. Phil lives in San Diego, he answered the reporter saying his tax rate from the federal government plus CA tax rate he now pays roughly 62% of his income in taxes. He apologized recently for this statement.

Here's my question.

Why the hell is he apologizing?

Phil last year made 60,000,000.00 bucks from tour winnings and endorsements. If he repeats that this year he will pay 37,200,000.00 in taxes to the thieves in washington and CA.

according to the govt and most dems he is a greedy man for wanting to keep his earnings. Sorry I don't see it he needs to move to  TX or a state with no income tax instant 6,000,000.00 in savings.

its a shame we have gotten to this point

it will only get worse!  Obama and the dems are masters of class warfare and the teachers union has instilled the younger generation with an entitlement mentality.  everything needs to be "fair".  Scary actually,  pretty much a repeat of Hitler.

just as people with money are fleeing NY, they are fleeing CA.  if you have a way to go, go.  the tax structure is completely screwed up.  the business environment is a total negative.  there is no good reason to stay in CA unless you enjoy funding the public sector benefit packages or the welfare state.

you don't even have to go far.  when my brother wanted to start a business, he ended up going to NV because the regulations, fees, and crap that he would have gone through in CA made for a years wait and to much expense.

this is the main reason for keeping states and state power.  it gives the people a chance to vote with their feet when one state gets out of hand.

Keith,
Couldn't agree more...these days, success is a bad thing that one must apologize for...While being a burden and drag on society is considered a "right" that people feel they are entitled to!

Reminds me of one of my favorite quotes:

“The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money. ”

I think he should apologize to all of us for driving up the cost of what you and I purchase by contributing nothing more than being a high paid spokesperson.  I'm sure the rest of people with psoriatic arthritis could use the savings more than Phil needs a few extra millions.  Who is the real thief here, and yes it is a shame where we have gotten.

And why is this a "repeat of Hitler"

not sure why this particular issue is a repeat, but if you have studied the early career of Hitler, this admin is an interesting mirror image of much that was done.  it more closely parallels fascism than socialism....although i have come to believe that neither are the motivation.

do you know what he was paid to do that spot?  do you think he banged down their door to do it, or do you think they may have wanted a well known personality for it?
is it up to you to define need?  is it up to the government to define need?  why should he pay a higher % of taxes than you or i pay?

do you know that he has a foundation?  how many people do you suppose work for him, or because of him?

To keep an extra 6 million at the end of the year, I would move to a place that wanted me and would appreciate me.

In the yellowdog Democrat union household of my origins repleat with an outhouse that was lots of fun at literally -40, our parents and especially my mother spewed hatred at anyone who had more than we did and that was almost the entire community.  We were poor because father had a farming habit that kept him and the family destitute.  It took me well into my twenties and Jimmy Carter to realize the total bancruptcy of class hatred and envy.  I came to realize that someone having more wealth did not decrease what was available for me to acquire.

Phil was told to shut up or lose his endorsements and reminded how the leftist press savages all those who make themselves visible as not left wing.  He needs to just shut up and pack up his extended family and move everybody to Texaas or Florida where he can practice golf all winter too.

Vance,
Congratulations on figuring it out...Unfortunately, many never do!  They're raised that way and continue to drink the kool-aid their whole life.

Like they say, "If you're not a liberal when you're young, you don't have a heart and If you're not a conservative when you're older, you don't have a brain.  Smiley

Vance,
here's a pat on the back and sincere congratulations for figuring things out for yourself and being your own man.  Most in similar situations would not find their way.

This business with Phil having to apologize for having a sane independant thought is sickening.  As for paying 62% in taxes, that borders on slavery and is certainly usery.  I grew up in California and it is just sickening to see what the commies have done to this state.  I agree, as soon as you have an opportunity or lapse in employment you should take your chance to get out.  The state income tax, sales tax combined with all the fees, permits etc etc etc are just plain punitive to a degree where it is insane.  Inspite of having 12% of the country's population we have 34% of the country's welfare recipients.  I could go on for hours, it's just insane.  As soon as I'm able, I will leave.

Good.  Those people as well as you and I, pay way too much for everything that we buy or use because of some millionaire spokesperson, who brings no added value to the product, gets rich.  Kids kill and steal so they can buy a pair of Nike gym shoes for hundreds of dollars while Tiger makes millions and cheats on his wife.  That's a great life, and yes, I'm jealous... not!

As far as Hitler goes, history is written, rewritten, and selectively remembered.  Beware of what you read and always consider the agenda of the writer.

Sundog,

What's the alternative?  Do you really want to live in a country where the government decides how much someone can make.  How much some company pays Phil Mickelson is between Phil and that company, it's no one else's business, if the consumer doesn't like it, they can vote with their feet and wallet and purchase a different product.

I can promise you one thing, if he didn't add value to the product, they wouldn't be paying for the endorsement.

Do you really think it's Michael Jordan's fault that some kids lack such moral fiber that they're willing to kill or steal for a pair of shoes.  I'd argue it's more the entitlement mentality pushed by big government where they're lead to believe they have a right to everything and someone owes it to them.

Lastly, you say we pay too much for everything we buy because of millionaire spokesmen.  While were talking about value for the dollar spent, How do you think Phil feels about the 37 MILLION of his hard earned money that he pays in taxes.  What kind of "deal" do you think he's getting from the government there?

Moots, liberals feel it's ok for the government to define and regulate our needs.  you don't need a magazine that holds that many rounds.  you don't need that treatment, take a pill....you don't need that much money, we'll take some from you.  it's all good until they tell you that you don't need something you value, like maybe your free speech, or right to protest, etc.

Kathy,
Totally agree! One of the reasons I'm so consumed with my new found hobby of beekeeping is because I'm so frustrated since the election that I can't bear to watch the evening news and see what they're doing to this great country.

Lastly, Can I tell you how impressed I am that you actually called it a magazine instead of a clip!  grin
