I think it was 2011 (maybe 2010) where there was a significant decrease in automobile fatalities in the US. Those traffic deaths still outnumbered gun deaths by between three and four thousand. I would think that by far, the larger number of deaths were by handguns...robberies, muggings, suicides, etc. There are arguments (and rightfully so) that alcohol, pot, nicotine, whatever, can be stepping stones on to heavier drugs (pick your poison). An assault weapon grab will be a stepping stone to other grabs. So, once they get the assault weapons outlawed some brilliant scientist of a gun-grabbing nut (whether they be right-handed or left-handed) is going to have a low-wattage light bulb come on above their head and say "Duh, we need to get rid of handguns, too!". When gun-grabbers say they just want the assault weapons off the market because that type of gun's only intended purpose is to kill humans and that they're not looking for more than that...they're attempting to pee in your ear and tell you it's raining...keep an umbrella handy.
