How may shallow brood boxes needed for good queens?

Hi guys,

Remember 2 weeks ago I asked about using all shallow boxes.
Thank you for all your replies. That was a nice discussion.
Now tell me,how many shallow boxes would a good queen need? If we think a good laying queen need more that a single deep,she must need several shallow boxes?

I use mediums, and usually keep three on for the queen and thier food sources. Dont know anybody that uses all shallows but i would think where you live you would need at least 5 or 6.

I do use 2 deep brood boxs, the old fellow I got my bees from just ran 1 deep brood and shallows for supers.  He did leave a shallow on in the winter.  As for your question of how many shallows, just a guest, I would say 4 to 6 depending on your bees.  Good luck with your bees.

I use unlimited brood space for good queens. I use 3 langstroth boxes in the middle on summer.
The lowest box will become full of pollen. With that pollen store bees rear winterbees in August. One frame pollen makes one frame brood. And during late summer process I push brooding to lowest box when I limit number of supers.

Normal good queen uses 15 langstroth frames.  Not good to me uses 6-8 frames.

My opinion is that  pollen stores in brood boxes is important. However they they need to be somewhere and they are then mixed to honey if there is no room near brood.

In winter hives have one or two boxes.
