Combination compost bin/ hive base ?

another thing to consider would be the odors produced by a compost. mine can get pretty ripe at times. so if the bees survived the periodic extreme high heat, CO2, & methane you could end up with some honey that smells & tastes like garbage. & if any shb larva fall in they'd have an ideal environment to develop into adult beetles.

My hives are sealed completely w/ oil traps in bottom. Only opening into nest is 1" pvc. Just thinking the heat underneath could help a bit when it gets chilly.

Ha !  Might be very healthy, Lots of bacteria. Keep u regular    On the subject of honey I did about an equal split of cutouts this year between city and suburbs. Not only are the city hives stronger the honey is better. Dark like molasses,  complex ! The suburbs have a much lighter honey, still good but we've been holding little taste tests and the city wins hands down. Going to put a couple swarm traps in Baltimore this spring.
