Hi All,
I have had a few beehives for a few years now. We started out with a single hive, capturing a swarm up in Mount Dandenong. First swarm and first hive was kinda interesting.
2 Years later I managed to successfully split this hive and had two nice hives in Heathmont. Our neighbours were not too keen though even though we gave them honey, comb and did everything we could to keep our bees happy.
Luckily we have a small hobby farm in South Gippsland where we can have as many hives as we like. Would like to build up our apiary to about 1 dozen hives. Currently 4 hives.
This season is looking good for us building up our apiary. I split (walk away) our suburban hive and so far so good. I caught a very easy swarm that clustered in our front yard on a shrub no more than 1 meter off the ground and they were very calm. So another colony established and doing well, down on the farm.
This year I hope to learn more about rearing queens.
cheers
john
