I had the same experience as Squidink, when I finally got some good enough weather to do an inspection, all four hives were light and one was in dire straights. Started feeding but too late for it. Checked it yesterday and it was full of dead bees

No shb here, but I had slugs in my hives! The hives a on a stand so I can only assume that they had crawled up the grass as I had let it get too long. Lots of capeweed flowering here now so hopefully the others will be fine.
On the other hand, our two hives in Epping are going off. Added a second box to a hive I got from a cutout I did a few months ago, and will be putting a super on the other soon I think.
Sure is a steep learning curve in this beekeeping lark

Paul.
