Have a friend who put a hive at my house for me and the Grandkids to watch. Tonight we noticed lots of bees outside the hive. First time I've noticed this at night so I was looking for an answer. Found this site and the answer. Turned out to be that temp control thing they do. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum. Bearding is a good sign of a strong colony. I often check mine at dusk to get an idea which are strong and which need my attention.
I was born and raised in Bessemer so I know you're in a really good area for bees.

Welcome aboard, woodchuck. You had better be careful or the next thing you know you'll be studying the beekeeping supply stores.
