Just read a live blog that Metaire is without power for hours already although no flooding as yet.

Okay folks it has been rough! We lost power a few times but it came back on quickly. Thank goodness for that!
Lots of tree limbs/branches down. Good thing I own two chainsaws, going to need them!
The wind has been unreal but is beginning to lessen some.
The rain has picked up and is steadily coming down now.
My main concern was the wind. We have survived the worst of it.
Bad news for my 15 hives in Braithwaite. Pretty certain they are under water.
Isn't it good to see Schawee back on the site?

Was just woke up by tornado warning sirens going off...we have yet to get hardly any rain or wind over this way.   These are maverick storms isolated from Isaac's bands but I can tell that they're courtesy of Isaac...they are traveling due north and Isaac is pretty much level with our latitude now.  Isaac is a long way off but even over here it's throwing stuff off.  Hope folks are ok over in LA an MS.

How are these storms going to affect the "Pea-con" crop?  Do I need to start socking away nuts for the winter?

 we got hit real bad by the hurricane here in Barataria/Lafitte,I managed to save one hive  that was in my yard,I went out in the storm while  the water was rising and moved it to higher ground.I think I lost the rest of my hives, I can not get to them until the water goes down,what a mess,I think I'm getting tired of this,(Cindy,Katrina,Rita,Gustave,Ike,Lee and now this one)All sense 05 and all did major damage to our town.

Sorry to hear about your lose Bayouboy.  We get hit every now and then also, but I am on high ground don't have to worry about flooding unless roof blows off.  We will keep you in our prayers.

Just spoke with Schawee. He said the water at his main bee yard is very high.
He propped the top on 25 particular hives of real concern. Says they were sitting in 6" of water. Water is expected to rise in this area possibly another two feet. These may abscond or drown.

...and Schawee does this with a mending bullet wound in the belly.  My hat's off to all him and the rest of you down there.  Wish you well and a quick recovery from the storm.

well the storm is over and we got hammered .just got my power to my house today and staying home for the first time sinse  i got out of the hospital.we are getting alot of backwater and its coming up fast.went to my main bee yard and it was a sad site.the water has come up so fast that it covered up 25 hives 6 inches deep.it was raining so hard that all i had a chance to do was pop the tops on all the hives to give them a way out of the hive  and hope for the best.the water will come up another 2 1/2 -3 ft.by tomorrow morning.hopefully they will survive.they closed the road while i was doing this but they let me go through the water to get back home.my home will be fine but alot of my friends will get flooded .its just a sad day.      schawee

Just spoke to JP to find out how things are going. He said you were doing really great and I am so happy for that. Sorry for the hives being lost (or maybe not). It must be hard to see that after all you have been through.

I am so glad thought that you will be ok Schawee and many more bee hives to come your way.

Thanks all for your prays and concern.I tyred to get to my hives again today, this is what it looks like where the hives are . Will try again tomorrow hopefully the water goes down on the next tide cycle.Looks like we inherited a shrimp boat,it broke lose during the storm,I don't know how they'll get it out of there.Maybe we'll use it for a new camp.

Well, we finally have internet again. Things are returning to normal for me again. My parents got their electricity back sometime last night. Thank goodness as yesterday it took me two and a half hrs to purchase gas for the generator. I had to do a lot of traveling to find that gas!

I had three bee calls today. All three related to the storm. One, a lady was calling around trying to get prices on her tree that fell over that's had bees in it for at least a year. Never heard back from her. Third one I am looking at tomorrow, that call came in tonight. They are also in a tree that fell over. Second call was an abscond I was able to hive tonight. Pretty good bit of bees. Put them in a deep and a medium. Pretty golden queen.

Speaking of golden, Suzie Lemoine of Golden Bee Products happened to be passing by while I was removing them. She and her friend stayed for quite a while and we had a ball!

The bees were resting on a red-tipped Photinia. These are the first bees I've fooled with since before the storm. A video is coming.

Mike, sorry you lost your hives. Glad you are in once piece and alive. That's the main thing. Between Schawee and myself we'll get you some more bees, no worries on that buddy.

Sorry for everybody that has suffered losses.

Rain from Irene has been a god send for us here in the midwest. 4" + in the last 24 Hours and it's still coming down.

D the people in Louisiana and Mississippi wish you had gotten a lot more of it.  I think we got about 15 in from Isaac.  Hope the people that places are under water come out OK and can get back to normal soon.  Prayer are with you.

well the water is still rising.alot of sand bagging going on.my home is ok but alot of others are not. went to the camp yesterday to look at some of my bee yards and its not good news .i lost all 25 hives in one yard.all floated away.thats the yrd i popped the tops on so they can get out.two other yards  has 12 hives each and lost another 11 hives between them.have two other yards that have 10 to 12 hives but water is to deep to get to them.im sure they will be ok because they are on the highest ground.total lost to date is 36.  will keep yall posted.oh by the way im feeling good.      schawee

Glad you're feeling good buddy but please take it easy. You don't want to push it too much while you're healing up. CD and I will help you pick up the pieces once the water goes down.

Hey, was just wondering why you put these hives in the middle of a pond? Doesn't really make any sense.
