Holes in rose leaves
«

Was weeding before the heat of the day and watched a leafcutter bee chisel out yet another hole in a climbing rose leaf. It is amazing how fast those circles and ovals get cut and the sound of the bee really under load as it flies away is amazing to me. My wife says off with their heads but I got hearing problems. They are fellow travelers after all. I suppose I need a nesting material up. My flower gardens are absolutely full of them every year. Is there a readily available source of something tubular for nests? I fear if I order the season will be over before the material gets here.

I had some leaf cutters move into the entrance tunnel of one of my foam nucs this spring. You might try something with a diameter of about 9mm. Some old bamboo stalks might be just about the right size? The leaf cutters seem to favor the Redbuds, Linden trees, and Roses around here.
