What are these used for?

I did a big cutout job (8x10) and the customer traded me out a trailer of
beekeeping stuff that he had stored in a metal building on a concrete floor.
Good boxes, in good shape, thousands of frames, and these. My friend E.t. Ash
down here says he has one and once Iddee identified it for him, but he can't
remember more than it was something about drones. Iddee?

Entrance Guard - Our entrance guard prevents drones or queens from going either in or out of the hive. This could be used when hiving a new swarm once the queen is inside.

Beekeeper use them as a traps in the 50s & 60s to kill drones to have less of them and to get more honey.

"Queen and Drone Trap"
supposedly they would force a swarm to return to the hive since the queen could not get thru it.
