Hello from Oregon, I am new to bee keeping and kind of inherited a hive from my father-in-law. last night when I got home from work I noticed hundreds of dead bees outside the hive. What have I done?

Welcome to the forum.   And did you do anything with the bees?    They do loose a lot of bees to death and clean them out of the hive.

where in oregon are you....you can put your location in your profile so we don't have to keep asking...

where you are might give a clue to the issue.  they might have been on/around something that was spryed, or gotten into some dust.  if it only happens the once, they will probably recover.  h

have you looked inside to see what's going on?
