Some advice please

I tried to split a hive. I put bees, and drawn comb then waited a few days to introduce a new queen. That was about 1 month ago. I checked them on a regular basis. They didn't do well. I thought the nuc died out. I looked today and saw about 10 bees and the queen. I don't want to lose a $20 queen, here in Hawaii queens are hard to come by.  I plan on putting her in a homemade queen cage, then because of work, in a week get more bees and try again. I'll wait a day or two before introducing the queen. Do you think that will work? Or is this a lost cause?

As this the only bees you got do you have a other hive or 2 and are you feeding

Are you certain the queen is fertile (any eggs)?  You state that you put in bees and drawn comb, did you not put a couple of frames with eggs and brood in?

I would give them some brood and some food.  I would also close the entrance to one bee space to make it easier for them to defend.

Search youtube for how to make queens.  Might be easier than you think.
