I've been traveling a bit lately and I have tried all the map services, but I find the following the most INTERESTING and FUN to use.
http://maps.google.com/ and choose "HYBRID" map option - you will get a SATELITE VIEW of the map with superior quality images that seemlessly scroll by dragging the mouse - but best of all it OVER-LAYS the actual highway numbers or street address so that you can see the intersections, landmarks, landscape, etc.
It even has directional arrows to show traffic flow. When you choose DIRECTIONS - enter the from and to locations and a blue line will route your trip.
I really am into this mapping site and helped me find the campground that I am going to in September - I could see the roads (all numbered nicely) and the actually make out the campers at the campground.
I'll be in Maryland, about 12 miles from Dover International Speedway in Deleware.
Hope you enjoy this site, remember to click on HYBRID to get the full effect and type your address in and see your house and street from space.
The whole world appears to be in this map, I zoomed into Venice, I'm not sure though about detailed roads beyond the USA, but even as a view from space, we have the world in ONE HUGE SCROLLING PAGE - really sweet!!!!
