Look to the smaller hardware stores (not the big box ones).  They sell it by the foot.

I bought #8 screen locally from a small local hardware store. But it did need to be ordered.
Only took a couple days.

My local True Value sells in by the foot in 24" or 36" widths. About $2.39 & $2.79 per foot.

You can order it online from ACE hardware and have it shipped for free to your nearest location.
