I was wondering if anyone knows of any good strategy games like Total War, Stonghold, or something similar. Ilike the time frame of the total war games. Must include empire building.

I still sometimes break out Stronghold 2.  (Stronghold 3 sucked.)

Might want to check out the CIV series.  And Settlers 7 wasn't bad.
