Fat Tuesday
« on: February 21, 2012, 09:05:35 PM »
Hope ya'll are having a fantastic Fat Tuesday! So....what's everyone giving up for lent?

Scott
"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag...We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

Allen...   Point well taken...    hardwood... "Scott"..   I'm with you guy...  done givin' stuff up...  I'm too old to give up much more...  shoot, only thing I got left is my happiness and I ain't givin' that up without a fight...   so I started beekeeping to teach me humility...  seriously though...  for Lent...  I think I'll work on gettin' my heart right...  know what I mean???   I gotta stop lettin' drivers tick me off...     Ok maybe I'll find something easier...  like grits!!!  I'd rather have my corn on the cob anyhow....

take care my friends!!!   John

Re: Fat Tuesday - Don't give up anything - take something positive up instead

I had a very smart nun when in the 3rd grade.  She asked the children to "take up a good habit" for lent, instead of giving something up. She suggested helping elderly neighbors, reading bible each night, or helping a younger sibling.  The thought was that after 40 days, the new habit would continue.  When kids are asked to give something up, they resent it and go right back to at Easter.

So what are you TAKING UP this lent may be a better question.
We love the girls...
