What is the difference with an unmanned port of entry and a 1000 miles of border with no fence?

This is to facilitate passage between the two countries. Not hinder. The last I knew, fences were tougher to climb than doors were to walk through.

I think I have got it figured out. You publicize a unmanned port of entry, the drug cartel and organized crime build a super highway from Mexico City to Chicago. Hows that for a FREE stimulus package?

We have had 7,458 miles of unguarded, unfenced border with our neighbors for the last 235 years we've been in existence. Guarding it, fencing it would not only be expensive, it would be stupidly expensive and totally ineffective. Have any of you watched someone who is in the habit of jumping tall chain link fences go over one? It's worse than watching a car thief start a car faster than you can get out your keys. Plus it's even easier to cut it, or bend it or prop it... How effective was the "Great Wall of China"?

I agree with MB, but if the Republicans want to send the great state of Michigan a few trillion to build a fence (in the middle of the Great Lakes) to keep our 721 mile boarder “safe”, we could use the jobs Maybe we could get the UAW to build it too

I never said send money for a fence, but spending this much for kiosks is effective? Whats next, bulk mailing personal invitations with a free overnight stay?

That all depends on the 'fence' and the 'door' Either 'can' be easy or hard, depending on what's waiting on the other side "Down with fences" thomas

the great wall might not have worked, but the zone around east germany was pretty effective....not 100%, but it was good. probably cost less than a big old fence.

Are you saying we need a BIG Berlin Wall? I thought some of you were RR fans? If so, what will it solve? More important, what will it produce?
