Defense Bill and Our Freedom?
« on: November 28, 2011, 09:44:46 AM »
Ok, I figured ya'll know about this but I just found out yesterday...a friend of mine who is a retired AF colonel emailed me the first link.  I did a little more digging and came up with the other two links.  Some of you that are smarter than me want to comment?  I was dim/bright enough to pick up in the first article that it's coming up for a vote today on the senate floor.  The first article may be a bit conspiracy oriented but it's laying some of the facts out.  The second article is the senate bill itself (anybody got a law firm that can read it for us?).  The third article is basically the White House's view of the bill...again, anybody got a team of lawyers handy to "explain" it?   I'm all for the war on terror, but.....

American blood spilled to protect the freedom and peace of people all over the world.  320,000 USA casualties in WWI, 1,076,000 USA casualties in WWII, 128,000 USA casualties in the Korean War, 211,000 casualties in the Vietnam "conflict", 57,000 USA casualties in "War on Terror".  Benghazi, Libya, 13 USA casualties. These figures don't include 70,000 MIA.  But, the leaders of one political party of the United States of America continue to make the statement..."What difference does it make?".

"We can't expect the American People to jump from Capitalism to Communism, but we can assist their elected leaders in giving them small doses of Socialism, until they awaken one day to find that they have Communism."..."The press is our chief ideological weapon." - Nikita Khrushchev

can you find some stuff that doesn't come from that source?  they are kind of nuts....although not always wrong.

as much as i'd like to dig though the the defense authorization bill, it's always a monster.  doubt i'm make it far  :-)

here's the thing, i think....there is very little the federal government passes for our (so called) good, that can't also be used against us.  we thought, for instance, that EPA regulations were to protect air and water quality.  now we have a president using them to destroy entire industries.
we thought the FDA was to make our food and drugs more safe.  now we have them telling which drugs can and can't be used under which circumstances....and telling us what we can and can't feed our kids.

so....any laws that expand the power of the federal govt have the real potential to be used against us, if not now, later.

More than that, they are unconcerned with the fortunes of their village, the safety of their streets, the fate of their church and its vestry. They think that such things have nothing to do with them, that they belong to a powerful stranger called “the government.” They enjoy these goods as tenants, without a sense of ownership, and never give a thought to how they might be improved.....

Defense Bill?  Really?  We spend a lot of $$ on defense.  What exactly are we defending besides the right to go anywhere on the planet and take anything for the benifit of the few?

Based on recent historical reality EPA and FDA (and the Defense Dept) work primarily for Big Business.  They stopped protecting the majority some time ago in favor of future incomes for the already well-off.  Does that mean they should be abolished?

Hardly.

Replacing top brass (in all areas of government) with qualified people (instead of political apointments) would be better, along with banning former 'employees' from lobbying on behalf of those 'we need protection from' for a specific amount of time after leaving any agency.  Putting the law breakers and the corupt in jail would also go a long way.  I'm still waiting to see some Wall-Street Execs in handcuffs.  Now THAT would provide some protection to the majority, but will always anger some who think such actions are too intrusive on 'someones' personal rights (to rob us??).

Wow! I survived almost two days on the COFFEE HOUSE thread! w/out going completely batcrazy  or sucumbing to the 'name calling' some around here find so easy to express. 8-) when meeting with frustration and lack of clarity of thought.  I know, I know...its hard (or is it easy) when all you're expected to do is repeat the lines heard on TV and Radio without a clear reason or purpose (just as long as it 'sounds' good .
