This was our first shot at bee-lining and it worked great! It took about 6 hrs or so but we ended up finding a well hidden bee yard with over 400 hives 2 1/2 mi away.

Man Scott, you guys outdid yourselves on this one. Helped Doug out big time! Just loved this video you guys put together. It was a lot of fun following you on your journey to find the bee's home.

Thanks Bro...glad you liked it! We had a lot of fun with it and learned a new tool for working bees. It turns out that the beekeeper is really well known and a bit nefarious. He's tried to sneak bees into Doug's area several times in years past but this time he got caught  Peggy told his crew "Tell your boss that there is no place he can hide bees that we couldn't find them." I hope he has learned a lesson! Scott |

Not to be a sour puss but does the guy really have to move his apiary just because y'all found them? Is it not legal for him to keep them there? It would seem to me that he would possibly move them as a kind gesture to keep the peace with Doug but is he really in the wrong here?

That was awesome Scott and Peggy.
I keep seeing bees at the farm when I don't have bees there. Several times I watched them collect pollen from the bahia grass and watched until they were full of pollen and then I would see them head SW towards the forest. I would like to bee able to collect the feral hives that get left behind from the gig bee companies that keep there bees there in the spring. They all went the same direction. I suspect from the point you made that it would bee very hard to follow them thought the forest.

JP, This apiary borders (right on the line) the Edgewater border. The city has anti bee laws that are old and generally not enforced but could come into play here. The county also has nuisance animal laws if need be.
It's not so much that the beek is acting illegally, but rather unethically. As I wrote, he's been known to pull this in the past. He's moving them south anyway so it's all moot for now.

Cool Y'all. My uncle used to tell me that he would dust them with flour or powdered sugar so that they would be white and easier to see as they flew away. I never have tried it but he was a straight shooter and I believe it would work.

Cool Vid, I grew up bee lining with the oldtimers just used sugar water in pie tins set on fence posts to track them, neat idea playing catch and release like that!

Nice video. I would really like to try this sometime. I have bees that come and rob the honey dripped in the bed of my truck when it is parked at work, I always wondered where the hive is.
