Plastic for sale signs as free shb traps

Watched YouTube video of pieces of plastic signs with dripping added to seal one end then add borac acid and seal other end with more dripping.
Staple these to bottom board.
The shb eat through the dripping and enter plastic tubes and eat boric acid and die.
The hollows in the plastic are too small for bees to enter.
Anybody tried these.

Haven't had a problem with SHB myself yet, but for what it's worth the material he used is called corflute, might make it easier to find if anyone wants to try it.

I saw sheets of the stuff all over town last weekend with the words "Garage Sale" written on them.
I have seen the video and I may try one.
Have fun!

Hi,
Corflute makes good traps,
another method is if you can get the 4.5mm corflute, is to paint the side black (purely to darken the walls and not to let light in)
dip one open edge in melted wax, and them place in the hive.
the holes are small enough to allow beatle in and not bees. but the beetles can not turn around and they can't walk backwarks, so they are traped until you come and clean them out, and hot water works a treat.
cheers

Good to hear Mark.
Is that size the normal size?
Do you use bait or just rely on the bees chasing the beetles in.

There are 2 common sizes, but it is the smaller of the 2. Most smaller signs use it and the bigger signs are 7mm, but the beatles can turn around and escape from the larger as they have room enough to turn around in.
No no need for bait, in a strong hive beatles are looking for places to hide, as the bee does give them a hard time so they will run straight in. IF you were to bait it you would have to be far more attractive than the 30 frames sitting above.
We will never get rid of this beatle only control it in the hive.
cheers
