I have wondered if splenda (Sucralose) could some how be used as a mite treatment I mean something like sucrose Octanoate Esters (Sucrocide). I google it every once in a while seeing if I can find any studies on it. Well today I found it mentioned in a Purdue University report.

Control
Some of the control measures are covered here, but other
methods are also very effective. Some control measures not
covered here are Sucralose, formic acid, and oxalic acid treat-
ments. Oxalic acid treatment appears to be one promising
alternative. To learn about these and other methods that may
be developed, you should look in beekeeping supply catalogs
and in trade journals such as the American Bee Journal and
Bee Culture for the most up-to-date methods.

Does anyone know of any studies on it.

Given the results of this very quick google search and MOSTLY my own common sense....I would never put that stuff in one of my hives. Never. I wont even put it in my own food. Its nasty. I may be green at beekeeping  but I am not green at commercially based 'food' products.

Sucrolose seems to be sneaking into my food all over the place.  I can taste it immediately and go back and look and find out they ruined something else that I used to like.  They started putting it in V8 splash now... how terribly disappointing.  I would throw away any honey that had that taste in it...

They started putting it in V8 splash now... how terribly disappointing. 


Truely disappointing. My 2 year old daughter drinks it daily. I had no idea. Looks like we are going back to Juicy Juice brand.
I guess I am getting old. I quit McDonalds, and processed foods with the whole GMO thing. Although I never did care for Splenda, I have known of its secrets for several years.
And of course this correlates into my Beek practices as well. I can think of 3 things I would sprinkle on my bees... Pollen, Nectar, and Honey.

Forget that nasty splenda stuff. 

I sweeten all my drinks with Apistan.  :-D

Sucrose Octanoate Ester (Sucrocide) is a 'soap' made with sugar and an 8 chain fatty acid. Its chemical properties are quite different from sucralose, I believe, even though both have a sugar group.  Various octanoate compounds have been well studied (I use copper octanoate as a fungicide, it is organically certified). Sucralose is chlorinated sugar - the chlorine holds the sugar together, it tastes sweet but cannot be broken down in the body, it floats around in the blood and does who knows what until it gets excreted. In general, chlorinating a hydrocarbon or carbohydrate makes it more resistant to breakdown, and more toxic. But the sucrocide is a very mild soap, different from splenda.

You might check the V8 splash as of now, I haven't looked at it lately, I quit drinking it when I first tasted the splenda and found it on the label.
