I was watching the news today and saw where it cost 2 million to make this my plate thing.  I would have loved to of been the one to come up with it.  2 million for 20 minutes worth of work in paint no wonder we are broke.  Here is a link to an article so you can see what they spent all that money on.

Yep $100 at best graphic design.  Think the government may need to shop around a little nothing more then that to cut the budget.

you just have to wonder what goes on in those little Washington minds.  it never seems to occur to them that they are spending OUR MONEY.

They think that such things have nothing to do with them, that they belong to a powerful stranger called “the government.” They enjoy these goods as tenants, without a sense of ownership, and never give a thought to how they might be improved.....

It's like they are 16 again and daddy handed over his american express black card the the keys to his Corvette.  We need a new amendment that says they have to blance the budget every year.  The heck with the political posturing they need to learn to live within their means just like all of us have to do.

They are just spending us into the ground.   They have no idea how hard it is to earn a buck.

They are just spending us into the ground.  They have no idea how hard it is to earn a buck.

I remember having to work for an afternoon when I was younger helping dad load firewood unload and stack it just to get a buck so i could put it with the rest of my money to go buy a bow.  Boy he sure got his money's worth.

But you can't expect that out of people that hardly have to work.  They don't even take the time to read what they are voting on.  Like i say a bunch of teenagers with daddy's credit card.  Most of them were born into money and the ones that weren't seem to have forgotten how they got there.  It's waste this and waste that they control our money what they don't take from us they make sure is taken through energy prices and such.  They don't trust us to make our own decisions.  Everything revolves around Washington when it should revolve around your town, city, or county seat.  If everything was more local if i wanted to pay lots of taxes I'd move to a place with high taxes if i wanted low taxes I'd move to a place with low taxes.  All of these things are what our founding fathers wanted not a bunch of pigs in Washington feeding at the slop troth on us.

What was wrong with the last food guide thing they came out with?  Lord if we can't make informed decisions about how we eat by now a 2 million dollar piece of paper isn't gonna solve it for us.

What we "knew" then, is now no longer "true."  Now we "know" something different.

I think the new symbolic plate is a pretty good improvement over the current “my pyramid” thing.  Since Americans are eating themselves to death, if a new symbol can help people understand food better, it might save trillions in future medicare bills.  I guess another option is to put an progressive tax on the calories in food  grin  Then people might start paying attention!

Since they’re going to waste our money anyways, I would rather have them waste it on something like this than on $800 pentagon toilet seats and hammers.

I saw one of the ladies responsible for this on fox they asked her about the cost. Her reply "this is just a drop in the bucket" So the thought logic is, as long as I only spend a little it doesn't matter.

Didn't you mean, "What we knew then we no longer know now, because now we know something new.

Hum, sounds like change.

do we really think that the people who need to eat better are going to pay any attention to a new government guideline?  maybe, since i paid for it and since i pay for food stamps, following the guideline should be a requirement for those shopping with my money?

How true. Back then I thought the government did what was best for Americans, now I know they only do what is best for THEM.  piano

I'm disappointed that they haven't found room for beer on there yet.

But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. You know Scott is onto something here.

The new pyramid is a plate:

What is really missing in this picture though is all the liquids people consume.  That can be more calories than what people eat in some cases!  If everybody just drank water like in the old days, there might not be an obesity epidemic in this country.  So the FDA really should add a glass icon to the plate icon and show how much beer, wine, vanilla shakes, and so forth, we can have with our water every day.

I suspect most people on this forum know that consuming liquids with calories can quickly turn into fat around the belly.   Fat = calories in – calories burned.  However I am always amazed to hear people who don’t believe anything they drink affects their weight!  They see no connection between all the Pop they drink and the scales.  This is especially so with kids.

What is wrong with old fashioned water, I ask huh

I'm going to save the government a few million dollars and publish my proposed 2018 revision.  As you know they obviously think that the collective intelligence of the US people is diminishing, so this should be appropriate....
