Hi Dear People, Well what a day it was yesterday. Swarm call and homeowner said they were 15-18 feet up the tree. NOT!! How about 40 feet up the tree?? Joanne, Shawna and I tried to figure out what the heck to do, and Joanne (new member of this forum) thought of involving the fire department. We went down to the fire department and Shawna told them we capture swarms for the 4H club to teach the kids about beekeeping. Well the fire captain asked us "Are they a nuisance" (wink! wink!) and we answered, "Yes they are a nuisance" (snicker, snicker) Well they came out and even played with several of the neighborhood kids showing them a good time. Fire truck arrives. Little neighborhood boy playing in the fire truck. He got dressed up in his firemans outfit for the occasion. Shawna, brave soul, getting prepared to climb that tall ladder. She climbed that ladder all alone. Video to follow and you will see her climbing. And what a tall ladder this is How the heck did the home owner think this was 15 feet up!! You can see that this was a good size swarm. Shawna removes the swarm Using the copy paper box - the JP way!! Happy Beekeepers!! Video to follow, Joanne is working on getting it onto UTube. I never had so much fun in my life. Enjoy Annette

Thelma and Louises? ...JP Funny you should say that JP because we had a couple of men beekeepers with us and we sent them home. Told them it would be better if only the girls went to the fire department. Well it worked

This video would be put on by Joanne the newest member. Haven't informed her yet about the initiation video. Guess I should get my act together and tell her.

Nice maneuver there, Annette. Good PR for the bees, a nice swarm hived, and an education for the whole neighborhood and the fire dept. That's what I call a triple successful swarm catch. Good job.

Ain't it Cool! I love how so many people are fascinated and attracted to bees. I am proud to be a member here where so many great examples of great people facilitate the interaction of people and bees. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks to G3Farms for posting the video. I managed to create a YouTube account and get it working there last night, but I was too tired to figure out how to put it on the bee forum so I went to bed. Now I don't have to cheat!! I was going to sneak in the video post before doing my initiation video, (that is in the works)!
Yes, that was Annette saying "shake it baby, shake it". I did see one of the firefighters starting to dance!!
Lots of fun,
Joanne

Thank you all for the wonderful comments. It was a blast for us and the neighborhood kids. We were also able to educate the homeowner who was initially freaked out when the swarm issued from an oak tree on their property. They had been watching the bees come and go from this oak tree for 3 years and really enjoyed it until they happened to see the swarm and then they wanted the bees removed from the tree. Glad we were able to calm them down and they appreciated the bees after that.

They will let the bee tree stay. It is up about 15 feet and far enough away from the walking path. They also have my number if they change their mind.

YEAH! GIRL POWER! It is nice to see other women out there that love bees like I do. I have been getting some funny looks from some of my friends when I tell them that I am getting my hive for Mother's Day this year. I can't wait though. I keep hoping that my husband gets some swarm calls while he is at work so I can go get them!
Great pictures and video, thanks for sharing!
