Hey all, I just ran across some square buckets. I have heard of the problems with the leaking honey gates on the round buckets due to not getting a good seal. Do you think these would work better? They are food grade. Or at least I think they are. I read somewhere that the symbol for foodgrade was a triangle with a 2 and these buckets have that. I would think that these would work great with the honey gate seal b/c the sides are flat, but I have never worked with the jaring process.  |

The buckets had glass beads in them. After a good washing I would not be afraid to eat honey out of them.

Allen, I do have the lids, however they are not made with gaskets in them.
I was mainly thinking that these may be better due to their flat sides. Are the honey gates not as prone to leaking as they used to be?

I have some square ones. They stack nicely and are a nice size to handle.

If you are going to use it for a bottling bucket then I would not worry about the lid having a seal.
I have had more problems with the seal on the gate leaking then the one that seals against the bucket myself. The honey gate cant be cleaned well without taking it all apart and taking o rings out and once you do that they may start leaking. Im just going to get a replenishment.
I also have a settling tank that was given to me and it has a leaky gate too.
