When we have a President that thinks it's okay to do anything he wants through the lettererd agencies when Congress doesn't do things his way, these are really things to be concerned about. We need Congress to defund these agencies and let them wither non the vine.

It's easy to point at Obama. But the real problem is Congress. I can not stress that enough. Congress has the authority to do exactly as you suggest (I agree) but they do nothing. They hold the real power in Washington believe it or not.

 But as the President is one third of the checks and balances in our system, we need to have  someone of good character who has respect for our nations founding principles. In the emantime the people that do pay attention on a day to day basis need to keep shining the light on the problems as well as be informed enough to take action.

Back to the original post, here in Indiana ammo is scarce as well. My wife managed to get two boxes (.22LR) last week, but only because she bought another gun.  Found some .380 for my daughter's gun, but it was a buck a bullet!

My dad got me started "rolling my own" reloading at age 13 with a mec 12 ga.   At age 16 I got my 1st pacific press and started loading centerfire rifle.  Except for steel shot waterfowl shells, 22 and 22 mag I have not bought anything  but casings, powder, bullets, shot and primers for 42 years.

I have 2 presses my old pacific and a RCBS rockchucker that I bought in the service in 1983.  If you plan to load any mag type rounds you need a strong press like these.  If they still carry it the RCBS master reloading kit w/ a rockchucker press has everything except the dies and components.   They are single stage and for loading handgun stuff it can be slow but it works.  With rifle rounds as long as you use the right powder it almost impossible to make a round that would be dangerous to you or your firearm.  The casing are usually full of powder.   Pistol on the other hand is not the same.  Pistol rounds can hold 2 and even 3 charges of powder.

hjon71 it's true that a lot of the problem is congress, but the congress only had control of funding the alphabet agencies, not running them.  much of  what this president is doing is through those agencies.

congress could defund them, but republicans only hold 1/2 of one house, so that's not going to happen. then we have the problem of the RINOs and they are just as bad as the dems.  in fact, there are dems in the senate that are more conservative than some of our purple state republicans

My older brother and uncle did a ton of reloading from when I was quite young into my early teen years, I helped out and hung around a lot, but never really got into the nitty-gritty details of it all.  I want to say that Star and Dillon are the two press manufacturers that I remember.  I know my brother was really high on the Dillon presses.
Coincidentally, I met Mr. Dillon when he personally flew down his Huey after Katrina to assist with the rescue efforts.  His Huey was rigged out with a mount for a gatling gun on the front...however, the FAA had made him remove it for his flight down to Louisiana.  
I was actually on board with him for his first flight into New Orleans but we got turned around by a nasty thunder storm.  Quite an interesting gentleman.

a little OT, but it is amazing the people who show up to disasters.  when i did katrina, there was a man and his wife working in the staff shelter.  to this day, i don't know who he was, but apparently he was quite wealthy.  he and his wife were mopping floors and cleaning toilets.  one day we had a bunch of fantastic food show up.  turned out that he didn't think we were eating healthy  so he had a bunch of salads and other stuff brought in and he and his wife spent the day preparing some good food for all of us who had been out in the field. 

had another one when i was in Iowa.  was running a kitchen operation and the HQ manager took me aside to ask me if i minded taking a guy with no training, but who really wanted to work.  it was odd, but i didn't care.  another pair of hands.  turned out he wanted to get out and see the disaster so that he knew best how to direct his big donations....which usually included things like rebuilding school...but he didn't want anyone to know who he was.
never found out who he was either

there are a lot of quietly generous people out there and you never  know when you are working with one!

The government is buying a crap load of "training" ammo for it's agencies,  Department of Homeland Security, Social Security agents, National Weather service and such.
I would buy it when you can find it....

that is the orders in, the only exageration is some has not been shipped to them.... 

I understand this.  This crap load of ammo is a NEW ORDER over and above the previous crap load of ammo that the IRS, the National Weather Service, the TSA, etc has ordered and already received.

 I think they stay abreast of what the "other side" is up to most of the time.  It seems to me it's more of a case of "you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours" with the winner of the contest being who gets the best scratching....the taxpayer loses out either way.

The federal government could definitely be defined as a religion...but not as Christianity.
