Is it getting to late in the season to make up a nucleus hive with a new queen ? I have plenty of frames of brood and bees to use. I am situated in western Victoria.

Just make sure there is plenty of honey for the up and coming cold. Pack it down tight into one box(8/10 frame) so the hive are well insulated. Make the entrance/exit small (25mm/1")for insulation. A bit of carpet over the top of the frames and she'll probably be right.

Thanks. I had planned to give them plenty of frames of honey but hadn't thought about the carpet on top. New queen turned up this morning so we will see how we go.
