About an hour ago I saw 23 trumpeter swans had stopped on their northern journey to feed in a field  near Vinton Ia. I have only seen wild swans 1 time before in this part of the state.
Spring is getting nearer all the time!

Come on out here!!  We have so many Trumpter and Tundra swans spending their winters in the Skagit River Valley that it looks like the crop land is covered with snow even when there's no snow. 

I've had swans and wild geese land in my pasture and spend a few minutes chatting with Sir Frances the Drake (Injured wild Mallard who has taken up residence, sharing my pasture with  my sheep.)
