"slum gum" you got any and what
«

I have been reading and Thinking (thinking=trouble)
Thinking I could use some
but haven't been into bees
long enough to acquire any amount, what little I did have
is gone.
What are you folks doing with it? Is there a market,
or is it straight to the fire pit or trash can.
If its trash can material,do you have any
that didn't hit the city dump yet.
If so How much and How much $
Thanks

I trash it. I just don't think I get enough to keep up with it. Big boys have enough to deal with it and sell it commercially.

I pack it in an old panty hose sock and leave it in my solar wax melter for a few weeks to get any last wax out of it (I get a few tablespoons, but not sure if it's worth the effort). After that I sprinkle some over Grill briquets in starting BBQ fires. Melts into the briquets and works like a charm. But don't start BBQing until the briquets are all grey! I also use it by heating it up and smearing it inside freshly made nucs to give them a "lived in" smell. Helps if you're going to use them for swarm traps. Whatever I can't use in these manners I throw away.

Put it in a bag in a pot of water with a brick on it and boil the wax out it...

Dear Friends,
After doing a search on the board for "slum gum", I haven't come up with anything. And with a name like that, I just have to know what it is! Is this the wax cappings?
Thanks,
Bruce

Bruce, "slum gum" is the term we use to describe all of the crap that's left over from rendering wax. Old brood comb contains left over cocoons, pollen, wax moth webs and a host of other stuff.
