All Members:
I'm excited to announce that our annual member gathering (called BUD3 - named after our host and it being our THIRD get-together) will be held:
The WEEKEND of APRIL 9th and 10th, 2011 in Macon, MS.
As in past events, arriving and staying a day or so longer is greatly encouraged, although most Beekeeping events will be held on the weekend. These dates are a break from our normal "last full weekend in April" because it fall on Easter this year.
Please mark your calendars and try to make it to this seasonal hit that brings members from around the country and very likely a special guest member from across the globe.
More details to follow, but I wanted to get this post started. I'm already shopping airline fares and scheduling that week off, so I hope to meet many new members and can't wait to see members from years past again.

Was thinking it was the weekend of the 23rd, glad you announced it early enough so I can inform those I told was on the 23rd. Bringing my wife this year, she's excited about the event.
Looking forward!

Maybe able to make it this year, planning anyway. Looking at that photo of a fishing trip to the Gulf by a rig and reading about tasting "gator" makes me think of moving back home to NO,LA. and getting in on all that seafood.

JP and all Been trying to get near a computer long enough the last few days to post the event date, been hectic here at work and very little time awake at home. I'm excited: looking at $400 air fare right now, so I'll check every week twice from now til then I'm sure something around $240 will come up by then. I'll be leaving out of Newark Airport here in NJ this time, went via Philly last time and the ride there was a bit complicated from here. Can't wait to see everyone - I'm hoping Tracey comes this time, but I can't promise, she's an office manager and payroll specialist for over 300 people, here job is quite complex much of the time and most of her vacation time ends up being use or lose time when she can find the days. Bruce, look forward to that gator too! Hope everyone got the mass posting I did last night??? I rarely send them out, but I wanted everyone to get the message. Good luck to everyone wanting to come, hope your schedules work out perfectly!

I believe I can make it this year, is it big enough this year to have a formal workshop track?
Can I volunteer to be the official videographer?
What is the recommendation for accomadations and which airport to fly into?

I will be there. Looking at flights as well, much cheaper this year than last year. Or I could always drive. But I will make it this year for sure.

Grandma Dog: We have accommodations for single women, families and and you need to fly into Meridian, MS (MEI airport code) but the only way to get to a plane that goes to Meridian is to go to Atlanta, GA - they have a twice daily flight to Meridian thru Delta. Hope that made sense I hope you can make it, and YES (thank you) official videographer you are I think you will be amazed at the things you will capture. The events, last year removing a huge swarm from a speaker box had 40 people in a barn watching. Very cool. I'm going to check the fare now... Ugh back up to $420, it was $385 yesterday, but it WILL come down around 4 weeks until the flight. I'm holding out under $300 Can't wait to see you there - we can arrange someone picking you up - I'll be at Meridian on Wednesday the 6th at around 1:55 you land in Meridian. I don't know who else is flying, but we hope everyone who does tries to come that day (albeit early) people start coming in. You CAN rent a car from the airport, it is an hour and a half to Bud3 - directions are already posted using lots of photos and interactive onscreen navagation through Google Maps. Hope all that helped. I really believe you'll have a great time!

I don't know if airline prices are going to come down if thinks in Egypt don't stop and the price of oil stops rising. NPR ran a story on jet fuel prices at sky high levels today.

Grandma Dog:
I like the new avatar better, your name threw me and I had you figured for the ladies lodging - lol, sorry about that one. But your lodging will be covered, kinda first come first serve on the loner rooms (Bud is generous to let me have first pickens) but we have some members who are flying much further than me this time!
EVERYONE:
This year we will be holding a 50/50 where the winners splits the booty with our host. Bud goes way out on the line to see we all eat and have fun and bed down at night - I wish we did the 50/50s in the past, it is a nice jesture and it could add up to a good payday!!
Last note, it is less than 2 months now, start checking those travel arrangements, scout cheap airfare and whatever it takes. If you are driving, maybe you can hook up with another member and share the cost of fuel and driving.
This is gonna be really great, many new faces to see this year and I hope plenty from Bud# past.

It's a ticket raffle - where the winner gets half and the other half goes to the cause. I was thinking 3 tickets for $5 - 15 tickets for $20. We'll have sales through the days and do the drawing on Sunday. If the winner isn't there, we'll mail it to them. Something to entice the gamblers and "just plain lucky folks" !
