Wow, are Illinois and Chicago great or what?
Perhaps the U.S. should pull out of Chicago?
Body count: In the last six months 292 killed (murdered) in Chicago.
221 killed in Iraq, AND Chicago has some of the strictest gun laws in the entire US.
President: Barack Hussein Obama
Senator: Dick Durbin
House Representative: Jesse Jackson Jr.
Governor: Pat Quinn
House leader: Mike Madigan
Atty. Gen.: Lisa Madigan (daughter of Mike)
Mayor: Rahm Emanuel
The leadership in Illinois - all Democrats.
Thank you for the combat zone in Chicago .
Of course, they're all blaming each other.
Can't blame Republicans; there aren't any!
Chicago school system rated one of the worst in the country.
Can't blame Republicans; there aren't any!
State pension fund $78 Billion in debt, worst in country.
Can't blame Republicans; there aren't any!
Cook County ( Chicago ) sales tax 10.25% highest in country.
Can't blame Republicans; there aren't any!
This is the political culture that Obama comes from in Illinois.
And he is going to 'fix' Washington politics for us???
George Ryan is no longer Governor, he is in the big house. Of course he was replaced by Rob Blajegovitch who is...that's right, also in the big house. And Representative Jesse Jackson Jr. resigned a couple of weeks ago. That is because he is fighting being sent to...that's right, the big house.
The Land of Lincoln, where our governors make our license plates.
But you know what? As long as they keep providing entitlements to the population of Chicago, nothing is going to change, except the state will go broke before the country does.

Being a downstater, would really like to see chicago pulled out of IL.. Very small area controls the state. Its a waste of time to vote in anything other than local elections..

Corruption will continue as long as the price of it isn't so bad. Getting politicians to write and pass meaningful anti-corruption measures would be like convincing thunder to happen quietly.

Great post. We have the same scenario in Ca. Only not so much corruption. Its taxes and debt. Demos all around and been this way for decades. Cant blame Repubs, cause there are none. Gov. Brown spending and taxing like a maniac and recently, proudly boasted, " we don't care what they say, we will continue this path!". Ca. once a great state, has been RUINED!!! by the left!!!...way to go!

Very small area controls the state i think we all have that problem. Portland and Eugene control this state. the odd thing here is that we have pretty liberal (in the real sense of the word) gun laws. i'm sure that will change, but so far we have held the loony left off.

Kind of a secession in reverse? Kick one county out of the state. -js

It is a shame that these people are destroying this country just so that they get their power and keep it. Jim

The panhandle of Nebraska has often discussed succeeding from Nebraska and joining Wyoming... they have much more in common with them than they do with Eastern Nebraska. The legalities, I'm sure, would be very complex...

The same dynamic is at play in the Florida Panhandle. Every few years something comes up about them leaving Florida and becoming part of Alabama. On the other hand the state of Georgia just wants to take in all the land that adjoins her.

That reminds me of a bumper sticker that used to be popular: "Will the last American to leave Miami please bring the flag." None of this would bother me if we wound up being in the United States of Texas.

My parents just forwarded me a joke that is making the email rounds for the retirement set and it reminded me of this thread.
“Limit all politicians to two terms. One in office; one in prison. Detroit and Chicago already do this.”
