I just captured my first swarm!!
Quite exciting and much easyier than I thot.
It was only about 5 ft. above ground and about as big as a basketball. I cut pine branch off, shook most of the bees into a brood box with drawn out comb in it. I stood back and watched as thousands of bees flew around the tree, box, and me. Most of them stayed in the box and the ones on the ground started crawling into the entrance so I put the innner cover on and watched some more. They continued to come down into the entrance. I decided to leave for awhile, so I went and got some coffee at one of my fire stations. When I came back about 45 min. later, there wasn't 10 bees flying around that box. They were all inside. I loaded up the box and took it home. As this is my first swarm captured, should I feed them sugar water even tho they have drawn out comb and there is necter and pollen in my area as my other hive are thriving? Any advice is appreciated.
