Schawee gives a lesson on how to clean and separate the tail meat on our big alligator. I lost the bet, the gator was 8' 2" long, just like the one last week we took, but fatter. I manned up and bought the shakes. I'm hooked now on Burger Delight's chocolate shakes! ...JP

There's a good amount of meat on those buggers. I was surprised to see all that fat on a gator. Don't guess I thought about it much. Schawee, do you ever use some of the gator meat to bait up hooks with or is chicken cheaper or better? And can you bait up a hole with the carcass?

allen, the bigger the gator the more fat he has.i had a 13'gator that had 2" of fat in the tail .the only part of a gator i ever saw used was the tongue.a old timer told me if you have a big bull gator that is hard to catch, use the tongue because he would think another gator moved in on his territory and he will come and eat it.we always used chicken . ...schawee

I imagine that it tastes a lot like t-rex steak marinated in pond mud.

I fried some up last week after marinating in McCormick's meat marinade. This is what I do with venison backstrap. I battered it in flour and Italian bread crumbs.
It tasted very much like fried venison, could barely tell the difference.
I think for the most part its reminiscent of pork and chicken combined.

Will have to ask Schawee about egg gatherin'.
Don't believe they do that though.
I know some guys down in Myrtle Grove that gathered eggs and sold them to the state but its kinda dangerous from what they told me.
The females will come in undetected sometimes and they had some really close calls, is why they stopped doing it.
