LOGIC 101

An interesting
letter in the Australian Shooter Magazine this week, which
 I quote:

"If you consider that there has been an average of 160,000
troops in the Iraq Theater
of operations during the past 22 months, and a total
of 2112 deaths, that gives a firearm
death rate of 60 per 100,000 soldiers.

The firearm death rate in Washington , DC is 80.6 per 100,000 for
the same period.

That means you are
about 25 per cent more likely to be shot and killed in
 the US capital,
which has some of the strictest gun control laws in
the U.S. , than you are in Iraq .

Conclusion: The U.S. should pull out of Washington

Everyone in Iraq has weapons, and some nice ones to boot, and D.C. has gun control laws.   Maybe we should arm everyone in D.C.?

The soldiers in Iraq wear body armor...maybe that should be standard in D.C.??

But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. No, the govmt. kicked God out of school and definiteley D.C. so I'm not sure he would sort it out for us.  I think we have to sort it out for ourselves.

Scott, you got me thinking, what would happen if I as a tourist in Washington, walked down the street with body armor on.  How long until I got scooped up by the feds?

I think this should be more fairly described as how to LIE via STATISTICS 101.

you will notice that the statistic is for no one year (22 months does look extremely odd) and that no death of civilian or enemy combatants is listed.

given the recent neutering of the DC gun law the current number will soon look like the good old days.  as one fairly famous former supreme court (I call them 'the supremes' or '9 mortal mean doomed to die') justice said (something like)... the constitution is not a suicide pact.

Might the 22 months be the timeframe both statistics were available for?

>>>>given the recent neutering of the DC gun law the current number will soon look like the good old days.<<<<

Seeing as how stricter gun laws have had higher gun death rates, and vice-versa, I think you will see the rate go down in the near future in DC.

Also, take note of the title. It was meant to be somewhat tongue-in-cheek, with a possible truth hidden deep within.

Yes, very sad.  Personally I think it is an fanatical response to the chinese governments population control policies.  The counter response will probably be chinese cops running around with sharp scissors....snip, snip, no more children for you.
