Springsteen's 'Darkness on the Edge of Town' box set to be released Nov. 16

For Bruce Springsteen fans, Nov. 16 is shaping up as a banner day. That’s when Columbia Records will release “The Promise: The Darkness on the Edge of Town,” a box set focusing on what many Springsteen aficionados consider his most vital period as a recording and touring artist.

The box will include three CDs, including a remastered version of the original album plus a bevy of outtakes, 21 unreleased songs among them, according to an announcement Thursday from the Springsteen camp,. It also will hold three DVDs containing six hours of live and studio footage, including a 1978 Houston concert when Springsteen and the E Street Band were in the midst of their most storied tour and a 90-minute documentary that will debut at the Toronto Film Festival next month. An 80-page book containing images of Springsteen’s original lyrics and notes from the sessions will also be part of the package. The set will also be available in vinyl and Blu-Ray configurations.

Shouldn't this be moved to the MOVIES & DVDS forum?

I like songs and music from lots of folk. A lot of his work is great, but I'm not a fan of anyone.

My hearing's so bad that I can follow the beat but can't understand a word of the lyrics.  Makes listening to a lot of music much easier than it used to be but the one type of music I can't tolerate, because of the beat, is type that grew out of the ghetto dozens game.  Rap, that's it, Rap that stuff jars the soul.

Now Brian. You shouldn't insult music or song by using those words to describe rap.

If we put what we call music at the top of the list, belch and fart would fall some where way below music. Then Rap would be so far below those two it would be out of sight.

In case you can't tell, I do not like rap.

IMO Rap isn't music either, that's why I said it jars the soul.
The beat is like listening to a stuck record, remember those?  I find it physically offensive, then, on those occassions when I've found out what the lyrics were, I found them morally offensive.
IMO, if you listen to rap for very long you become hypnotized by it.
It is very effective as a means of morally corrupting a generation or 2.

Living amongst Springsteen fanatics was hard to do back then, I believe I was the only one in NJ that did not care for his songs, don't get me wrong, Bruce wrote some great music and had a talented band to back him up, but I just could not stand the local stuff. Bruce had no problem selling out 5 or 6 nights in a row in Philadelphia, he probably could do it today.  Smiley

see, that one word that was used blew the excitement of the whole thing for me.

You had to go and say Springsteen.

Use of such foul language is really un-necessary.
